May 18, 2025 — In a strategic move to enhance the integration of information technology (IT) in education, the Education Bureau (EDB) has been providing an additional recurrent cash grant to all public sector primary, secondary, and special schools since the 2017/18 school year. This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing the learning environment and equipping schools with the necessary resources to embrace e-learning and other IT-based educational innovations.
The recurrent funding is specifically designed to strengthen in-school IT staffing, enabling schools to recruit and retain qualified personnel who can support the implementation of digital learning tools and platforms. With this financial support, schools are better positioned to manage and maintain their IT infrastructure, ensuring that students and teachers alike benefit from a seamless and technologically enriched educational experience.
Beyond financial assistance, the EDB is committed to sustaining the momentum of digital transformation through continuous professional development. Ongoing training programs are offered to technical support staff and IT teachers, ensuring they remain up to date with the latest technological advancements and their practical applications in the classroom. These training sessions cover emerging trends in educational technology, cybersecurity, and digital pedagogy, empowering educators to leverage IT tools effectively to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
The dual approach combining financial support with professional training demonstrates the EDB’s dedication to fostering a future-ready education system. By investing in both infrastructure and human capital, the bureau is paving the way for a more dynamic, inclusive, and innovative learning environment across Hong Kong’s public schools.
