July, 2025 — An exciting STEAM summer course titled “Game Design and Business Models—Harnessing Generative AI for Commercial Game Development,” was launched by the E-Learning Development Laboratory, University of Hong Kong. The course was tailored for junior secondary students, offering young learners a rare opportunity to step into the world of digital game creation, blending creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Throughout the course, students explored the foundations of game mechanics, behavioral economics, and interactive storytelling. They were introduced to Roblox Studio and its AI-powered assistant, which enabled them to bring their game ideas to life with greater efficiency and imagination. From brainstorming original concepts to designing gameplay and coding features, students experienced the full development pipeline of an online game.

Working in collaborative teams, participants not only learned how to build engaging digital experiences but also examined how games succeed in the marketplace. The course emphasized both technical fluency and business acumen, encouraging students to think like developers and entrepreneurs. By the end of the week, each group proudly presented a playable prototype, which may proof of their innovation, teamwork, and newfound confidence in navigating the future of AI-driven game design
