The Prize-presentation ceremony of the History e-Reading Award Scheme 2025 was held on 8 January, 2026 to recognize students who participated in the award scheme and thank schools for their support. The award scheme was held from April to July 2025, which was jointly organized by Personal, Social and Humanities Education (PSHE) Section, Curriculum Development Institute (CDI), Education Bureau (EDB) and The e-Learning Development Laboratory, The University of Hong Kong.

The aims of the Scheme are:

• to encourage students to learn history through reading, and create a favorable reading atmosphere and culture in

school;

• to arouse students’ interest in learning history, encourage them to engage in self-directed learning through the

e-platform, so as to explore historical knowledge and develop proper values and attitudes; and

• facilitate exchanges of experiences among schools on promotion of reading and e-Learning.

The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti‑Fascist War. To commemorate this important milestone, this year’s award scheme features specially selected historical articles on these themes, helping students appreciate the significance of the War of Resistance and the end of WWII from multiple perspectives. Through the scheme, students are encouraged to remember history, treasure the peace hard won by previous generations, and recognize that upholding and pursuing world peace is a shared aspiration of all humanity.

A total of 187 schools, with more than 36,350 students, took part in the award scheme this year. The “Creativity Award” encourages students to express the positive values reflected in historical figures and events through formats beyond traditional writing; 12 student teams received this award, including a certificate, a trophy, and a book coupon. The “STEAM Award” recognizes students who integrate historical learning with STEAM concepts while demonstrating proper values and attitudes; 4 teams received this award with the same set of prizes. The “Academic Award” supports students in conducting project‑based learning related to the themes of the selected articles; 2 teams were honored with this award.

For individual prizes, 848 students were granted the “Merit Award” after assessment. Among them, 83 outstanding performers were further presented with a certificate, a trophy, and a book coupon. Around 4,400 students who achieved satisfactory results received the “Appreciation Award,” while more than 14,700 students were given a “Certificate of Participation” in recognition of their effort.

We hope that, through our collective efforts, the learning and teaching of History will continue to flourish, providing students with enriched learning experiences and helping nurture their positive values and attitudes.
