The University of Hong Kong’s e‑Learning Development Lab and Sports AI Lab, together with the University of California, Davis, successfully launched the “E-Commerce and Financial Technology” (电子商务与金融科技) winter course from January 5 to January 9, 2026, at HKU main campus. The five‑day programme brought together students for an intensive academic experience dedicated to understand the rapidly evolving world of electronic commerce and financial technology.
The winter course was jointly developed to promote academic exchange and cross‑institution collaboration. Students gained opportunities to broaden their technological foundations, enhance global perspectives, and engage in international learning. The programme also offered credit recognition from UC Davis, allowing eligible participants to apply academic credits toward their degree programmes, while outstanding students may receive recommendation letters from professors to support future academic or career development. After completing the course, jointly issued certificates will be given to mark the successful completion of this international learning experience.
Throughout the five‑day programme, students were immersed in the core areas that define today’s digital economy. The curriculum introduced the foundational knowledge of electronic commerce and financial technology, guiding students through the development and application of essential systems and digital infrastructures. Participants explored technologies such as RFID systems, QR code mechanisms, GPS and location‑based services, electronic payment platforms, and the security models that support online transactions. They also learned about digital identity verification, fraud‑prevention frameworks, WiFi safety protection, and emerging AI applications in the financial sector. Through lectures, discussions, and practical demonstrations, students gained a deeper understanding of how these technologies operate in real‑world commercial and financial environments.
By the conclusion of the programme, participants had developed both theoretical and practical insights into the architecture of modern e‑commerce systems and the technological engines driving the fintech industry. The course encouraged students to examine global trends, industry challenges, and innovation pathways, preparing them to engage with future developments in digital business and financial technology both within Hong Kong and internationally.
