Hong Kong – The HKU eLearning Development Laboratory organized a modern farming visit under the Quality Education Fund Thematic Networks - Tertiary Institutes (QTN-T) program, supported by the Education Bureau. This initiative, providing annual school-based support since 2019, aims to inspire school teachers with innovative educational approaches.

The visit offered insights into contemporary agricultural practices, including advanced greenhouse settings with strict environmental controls. Teachers learned about hydroponics, a soil-free method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions. This sustainable practice provided a practical application of scientific knowledge, reinforcing the importance of integrating such topics into the STEAM curriculum.

The experience demonstrated the potential for incorporating real-world applications into teaching methods, enhancing students' learning experiences. Ms. Alice Ma, a representative from the HKU eLearning Development Laboratory, remarked, "This visit has been incredibly enlightening for all of us. It has provided a unique opportunity to see how scientific principles are applied in modern farming, and how we can translate these practices into our teaching to inspire students."
