Hong Kong – A significant educational event was organized by a District Councilor, inviting members of the HKU eLearning Development Laboratory and students from Kwun Tong Government Primary School (Sau Ming Road) to visit the Legislative Council. This visit highlighted the innovative work being done by Kwun Tong Government Primary School (Sau Ming Road) under the Quality Education Fund Thematic Networks - Tertiary Institutes (QTN-T) program, spearheaded by the Education Bureau.

Since 2019, the HKU eLearning Development Laboratory has been providing annual school-based support in cross-disciplinary STEAM curriculum planning. During the visit, students had the unique opportunity to present their project on a cable car system for Kwun Tong, a practical application of their STEAM education.

The students' presentation impressed the audience, including several District Councillors. Their well-researched and enthusiastic proposal sparked meaningful discussions about the potential implementation of the cable car system, showcasing the real-world impact of STEAM education.

This visit underscored the importance of giving young minds a platform to present their ideas to policymakers, highlighting the successful collaboration between educational institutions and government bodies. The event emphasized the role of STEAM education in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and inspiring future innovators and leaders.

Dr. Wilton Fok, Director of the HKU eLearning Development Laboratory, remarked, "It was incredibly gratifying to see the students' hard work and innovative ideas being acknowledged at such a high level. This experience has undoubtedly inspired them and reinforced the value of their education." He also highlighted the importance of continued support and collaboration between educational institutions and government bodies to foster a culture of innovation and critical thinking among students.

The event concluded with a tour of the Legislative Council, giving students a glimpse into the workings of Hong Kong's legislative process. This visit not only provided an educational experience but also encouraged students to consider how their ideas and initiatives could shape the future of their communities. The collaboration between the District Councillor, HKU eLearning Development Laboratory, and Kwun Tong Government Primary School exemplifies the potential of STEAM education to empower young minds and inspire positive change.
